It was only just last week that our festive soiree, Petite Noël, featured an evening of cakes, music, mulled drinks and home made shopping to Dundee.

In a bid to encourage Christmas shoppers from the high street, Petite Noël hosted a variety of twenty crafter's and artsits, each selling from their very own pop up shop for the evening.

The night was a great success with a bustling crowd filling the hall from start to finish!

We would like to say a big thank you to Paul at N_ILK for all his hard work and organisation of the night's entertainment.

We would also like to thank all of our sellers for taking part and we look forward to working with you again in the near future.

If you braved the cold and came along to Petite Noël then thank you!

While the winter weather has been causing disruption across the country, the Dundee Jamboree team has persevered and not allowed snowed in cars or icy pavements get in the way of a busy few weeks! With such a full schedule we have to apologise for our lack of updates about recent Jamboree events. As thing's settle down it's nice to finally be able to talk about the past couple weeks and share a few photograph's for those of you who couldn't come along.

On Sunday 5th December we hosted a chic and intimate market in the stylish surroundings of Dundee's The Playwright Restaurant. Six jewellers, some of whom travelled from as far as Aberdeen and Glasgow, joined us for an evening of drinks and cocktails while they sold their beautiful work to eager Christmas shoppers.

The event was well attended despite the harsh weather and many customers commented on the great variety of hand crafted work that was on offer. Thank you to all of our jewellers who took part and we hope you all had an enjoyable evening.

This Sunday 5th December, Dundee Jamboree are set to host the 'elegant' and 'intimate' jewellery market, 'Classique Noël'.

Whether you are looking for a special gift or treating yourself, you will find unique and stunning pieces that are guaranteed to impress.

One of Dundee's highest rated fine dining restaurants, 'The Playwright', will be opened exclusively for the event between 3pm and 8pm, and will play host to a handpicked selection of jewellers, selling and showcasing their work.

The event will showcase the beautiful work of six jewellers, including Maria Maclennan, Kate Pickering, Jane Gowans, Katie Lees, Aubin Bishop and Nick Tully.

The Playwright Bar* will be open to serve the finest cocktails, wines and spirits creating the ultimate shopping experience.

Dundee Jamboree are pleased to announce our winter event: Petite Noël! Our festive soirée will be held at Dundee West Church hall- a fantastic little venue across from Laing's pub on Roseangle.

From 5pm - 9pm on Wednesday the 15th of December, we've got a hand-picked selection of Artists and Makers selling their wares, live music from our friends at n_ilk and sweet and savoury delights for you to munch on while you shop!

We're also so excited about unveiling our exclusive Christmas attraction- The Gift Wrap Deli! We've got a beautiful selection of the best sustainable and handmade festive gift-wraps, bows, ribbons and tags all for you to pick, mix and create your own individual Christmas gift parcels!

So put the 15th of December in your schedules and check back soon for our full line up of Artists, Makers and Musicians.

Bit of a belated blog post about our expedition to Dundee's Botanic Gardens for our collaboratory event with Dundee music afficionados- n_ilk. Due to the dreich Scottish weather we set up in the Garden's lovely education centre shack. Our Jamboree location had a bit of a nordic feel this time around- and once everybody was in and set-up, we were definately cosy!

With the DJ's in the glasshouse providing the soundtrack to the day, everyone of our Jamboree sellers put on a brilliant display of work and settled in to our temporary home fantastically!

The weather behaved itself for the rest of the day and we had loads of visitors throughout the day and into the evening. We'd like to thank all of our designers for all of their hard work and everybody who made it along to browse and buy! We're currently planning our next event, which we can reveal will have a Christmas twist- so stay tuned for full details to follow very soon!

n_ilk at the Botanics - Meet the Artists part 3

Just three days to go until n_ilk and Dundee Jamboree take over the Botanic Gardens in Dundee. Here's the final peek at some of the artists who will be selling their wares on the day. Hilary Grant
Hilary creates beautiful knitted textiles as well as sweet illustrations, and always seems to be working on an amazing collaboration or project. Don't miss out on her knitted mountains.

Yvonne Stewart/Sketchstitch
Another textile artist/illustrator, Yvonne mainly works with gouache, thread, ink & pencil, creating dreamy portraits and landscapes.

Rosie Barthram
As well as an array of stitched goodness, including badges, pillows and flags, you might just learn about boredom prevention if you stop at Rosie's stall.

Mimi Pearl
Mimi Pearl, aka Theresa Dickson, handcrafts a range of fabric accessories and semi precious jewellery. The soft colours of her pretty creations compliment almost any outfit.

hellojenuine / John Alan Birch
hellojenuine, aka Jen Collins, and John Alan Birch are two illustrators based in Dundee. Their individual (and sometimes collaborative) work comes in the form of prints, zines and postcards, read to join your bookshelf or adorn your walls.

I Heart ... is the alter ego of the lovely Iona Bruce. She'll be joining us for her selling debute with a super cute collection of cross-stitch and hama-bead creations.

After a bit of a summer snooze after Big Top Jamboree, Dundee Jamboree is donning some shades and a straw hat for an expedition to Dundee's beautiful Botanic Gardens as part of the n_ilk at the Botanics micro festival!

N_ilk- who run mixed genre (no ilk) music nights in Dundee have invited us to join them for one night only- at their annual micro festival- situated in the grounds of Dundee's truly spectacular Botanic Gardens.

With an acoustic stage, and ambient and electronic sounds from artists including Jo Foster and Loops Haunt in the amazing glasshouse providing the tunes- we're looking for artists, designers and makers to come along and set up shop with us on Saturday the 11th of September, between approximately 3pm and 10pm. We're really hoping to be able to set our stalls outdoors- but we've got all bases covered for drizzly weather- in the shape of a cosy log cabin with tea-making facilities. We can't wait!

So- If you fancy coming along to sell your wares- all you have to do is email n.c.mcwilliams@gmail.com with a either a selection of photos of your work and a wee description, or a link to your website or blog. There's no fee to pay, and no commission of your sales will be taken. Pretty amazing, huh?

The call-out for participants is open as of NOW, and will close on Monday the 9th of August at midnight.

Etsy Craft Party - success!

Just a quick post to thank everyone who came to the Etsy Craft Party last night, it was a great success! Projects were completed, skills were shared, cake was eaten - perfect. We went home with a lot less materials than we started with, & great feedback was given. We hope everyone who came had fun and found something to entertain themselves with and managed to take a finished item away with them, and that you met some new faces and learned how to do something different. Extra special thanks to people who kindly brought some delicious platters and to the people who helped tidy up at the end! More photos will be available soon.

We'll keep you updated on what's next but in the meantime, keep an eye on our Twitter for little news bits and local going-ons.

A little sneak peek at one of the DIY mini-projects available for trying yourself at the Etsy Craft Party this Friday. We're providing five DIY mini-projects and one collaborative project for people attending, and we're encouraging people to bring their own things to work on too: so far there's people who will be knitting, crocheting, quilting and embroidery. What will you bring?

As well as crafty workshops, there'll be tea, cake & lots of good company. We're meeting at 7.30pm in the Activity Room at Dundee Contemporary Arts, which also has some zine-making/weaving/paper-clothes-making/music stations set up, as well as a mini-craft library. Handmade Nation director Faythe Levine also kindly donated some little craft packs, so be sure to get there early to grab one of those.

If you havn't heard, it's Etsy's fifth birthday this June 18th- and to celebrate there are Etsy Craft Parties springing up all over the world- bringing together Etsy shop-holders and crafty folks alike!

And the really fanstastic news is that Dundee Jamboree are hosting Dundee's very own Etsy Craft Party! We're so pleased to be hosting our Craft Party at the amazing Dundee Contemporary Arts on Friday the 18th of June at 7.30pm.

Bring along your own crafts to keep you busy, or try one of our DIY mini-projects whilst enjoying good cake and plenty of tea. Whether you're a beginner in the world of handmade or a seasoned craft fanatic we'd love you to come along- learn some new skills, or just get together with other like-minded folks.

If we're amongst the the top 50 Craft Parties in the world (and we're currently number 15!) we'll receive loads of Etsy party goodies for us to enjoy on the night- but we can't do this without your help. We need you to confirm that you're coming along by RSVPing here.

Big Top Workshops: Zine Making with Lauren Gentry

The beauty of zines is that they have no rules.

They're a cheap form of printed work, home made writings & illustrations based on any topic!

Read by anyone, made by anyone zines are a fun & creative way to get your work out there.

In this FREE workshop Lauren will be working alongside illustrator Rae Duncan to show you different folding techniques, the various options for printing & during the course of the day anyone who drops in will be invited to make a page (or as many as youd like) for a collective Dundee Jamboree zine of the day.

The workshop will provide paper, collage materials & pencils but feel free to bring along anything you might like to use.

If you make zines of any kind bring them along, it'd be great to see what you've been up to!

Big Top Workshops: Badge Making with Nikki McWilliams

Fancy promoting your work for Degree show, or just interested in making your own badges for you and your friends? Come along to Nikki's Badge Making taster session between 2pm and 5pm this Monday the 17th at Drouthy's Basement for the chance to make your very own button badges, and big badges too!

Nikki will be providing paper, pens and pencils for you to create your own badgey art work on the day, or be super-organised and download the templates for the button badge or large badge and design yours to bring along with you!

Nikki will only be charging 25p per button badge, and 50p per big badge you make. And if you'd like her to do you some more for your Degree Show/Band/Hen-Night she'll have a wee list of wholesale prices for you to take away with you too.

Big Top Workshops: Corsage Making with Paleface

Catherine Barthram of Paleface will be showing you exactly how to make one of her very own vintage fabric Corsage brooches on Monday at Big Top Jamboree.

Catherine will be providing some beautiful fabrics, buttons, brooch-pins and passing on the skills you'll need to make your own corsage. A snip at only £3 to cover materials- come along between 2pm and 5pm and discover your corsage making skills whilst treating yourself to one of Loren Brand's delicious cakes, available to buy throughout the day.

***Please note- last admittance to the Paleface corsage making work-shop will be no later than 4.15pm.***

Big Top Artists Catalogue

As Monday 17th approaches we're busy over here at Dundee Jamboree getting everything ready for the fair.

Yesterday afternoon was spent printing and stapling our Jamboree catalogue which will be available on the night.

This little book contains all of the artists who are taking part in the event, including e-mail addresses and a link to their websites so you can find them after Big Top Jamboree!

If you didn't make the deadline for submitting work to Big Top Jamboree, but would still like to be involved, then here's your chance. We're looking for enthusastic folks with a love for all things creative to help us out at our workshops during the day, and in the evening at The Big Top Jamboree.

As a thank-you for your help, all Big Top Volunteers will recieve a limited edition Jamboree Goody bag, including a Team Jamboree badge for you to wear and a FREE event catalogue featuring all exhibiting artists- which will be on sale on the night.

Cut-click mail art exhibition on tour

The Dundee Jamboree team are delighted to be hosting cut-click's mail art exhibition at our Big Top Jamboree on 17 May. Having previously been shown at the East Coast School Of Art & Design in N.E Lincolnshire, the exhibition includes mail themed work and packaging as artwork, including postcards, painted jiffy bags, fold out zines and illustrated envelopes, & it's now making its way north (via mail, of course) to be shown at our event. Work was sent in from all over the UK (including a few pieces from Dundee!), and includes submissions by Lesley Barnes, Jeffrey Bowman, MrYen, Marie-Louise Plum, Tigz Rice and Caroline Twidle to name a few.

As well as the work being sent to us being on show, cut-click want their mail-art collection to grow. So, as part of the Dundee event and any future installments of this touring exhibition, we want your mail-art submissions. If you missed the deadline to take part in the Big Top Jamboree, this is a nice way to still get involved in the evening. Make a piece of mail themed art and send it to the Dundee Jamboree team, and your piece of work will be displayed alongside the original show on the night of our event and, if you're happy to see your little artwork go out into the big wide world, your mail-art will spend the rest of its days in the cut-click archive, touring wherever it may tour. Sound good to you? Excellent.

Send your mail-themed art to us by Tuesday 11 May and (providing it reaches us on time and is suitable for public display i.e. nothing offensive) we'll pin up your work. With just over two weeks to go & preparations well under way, The Big Top Jamboree has found itself in the pages of Scotland's free culture magazine, The Skinny!

Details of our up coming workshops are featured in the article, as well as a few of the artists who will take part in the evening's stalls.

Hi all! Just a quick thank you to everyone who sent in a submission for the Big Top Jamboree - if you didn't manage to submit in time, we're afraid you'll have to wait until the next event! The team had a very productive meeting this evening, it was great to go through all the work and see wide range - not just in content but geographically too.

We'll be in touch with everyone later in the week, and you'll hear back by Friday about the next step. We're going to get busy getting ready, and we'll keep you updated along the way. We're also going to be looking for some helpers, but more about that soon.

Big Top Jamboree - Creative Fair

Roll Up, Roll Up! Calling all Artists, Designers, Illustrators, Makers and Creatives!

We're inviting you to show and sell your makings at our Creative Fair: Big Top Jamboree, this coming May 17th at Drouthy's Basement, Perth Road, Dundee. Whether you Draw, Paint, Video, Sculpt, Print, Craft, Animate, Sew or Make, we'd love to hear from you!

There are opportunities for those wishing to sell their wares at our market-style stalls as well as at our "Work-Shop". The "Work-Shop" is an area dedicated to selling your 2-dimensional creations- we're looking for anything from prints and drawings to photography and tapestry.

Alongside our stalls and shops, we've got plenty of wall space for you to exhibit your work for visitors to admire throughout the night. If you're a Video Artist, we also have Projection facilities for you to show your work.

So if you'd like to get involved, just email laurengentry@hotmail.co.uk with: Your name; stating whether you'd like to sell your work at a Stall, at the "Work-Shop", or are interested in using Wall Space or our Video Projector; along with up to 5 images of your work, and/or a link to your Blog / Website / Flickr / Picassa.
